My deeply rooted Desi aka Indian genes forbid me from falling in love with anything but Natural ice cream from Juhu, Mumbai. Top that up with flavours like Sitaphal, Gajar Halwa and Anjeer (dried fig) as my top three favourites. However, that doesn’t mean I never indulge here in Singapore. But I can’t be made to fall in love with Gelato or Ben and Jerry’s or Haagen Dazs no matter how fancy they sound or cool they look.
Nevertheless, the 8-year-old and me sit devouring a Magnum Chocolate stick each this afternoon. As she licks from all sides trying her best to avoid the melting ice cream from tainting her clothes while in turn painting her mouth like whiskers on a bunny, she cannot help but notice me go from 0-100% in a matter of minutes, if not seconds. It is almost like the F1 race. The car vanishes by the time you turn your gaze.
Curiosity gets the better of her and she asks, “Mom, do you secretly practise eating ice cream?”
“No”, I snap, looking confused and annoyed.
“How can you eat so quickly without spilling even a drop or letting any chocolate colour your mouth?”
Now it is my turn to reveal my CV – ‘Over 30 years of experience in ASIA ex Japan, Australia and USA in unwrapping, licking, slurping, biting and swallowing any ice cream flavour before it can leave a trail.
100% quota achiever since 1985, member of Million Dollar Ice Cream Professionals Club since 1990’.
P.S. I have decided to humbly declare I am unable to contain my talents and skills from being questioned on a daily basis by someone who doesn’t understand the meaning of ‘offending the feminine ego’ yet!
Good Writeup 👍
